Smoking isn’t the only dangerous thing you can do while you are pregnant. Drinking coffee during pregnancy has serious effects on the baby that you should be aware of. Coffee contains caffeine, which is why most people drink it to start with. Coffee perks them up because of the caffeine in it. If you are pregnant, you should consider stopping that habit until you have the baby and are no longer breast feeding.
Caffeine is very highly addictive, which is the first effect that drinking coffee will have during pregnancy. Whatever goes into the mother’s body is, in effect, going to the baby’s body as well. That means you are getting your
baby addicted to caffeine before it is even born. This brings us to the second effect of drinking coffee on pregnancy. If you drink coffee while pregnant it goes into the baby’s system and the baby comes addicted. We have already established that. Caffeine will cause hyperactivity. The energy that you feel after drinking a cup of coffee is no accident. If your baby is born addicted to caffeine, you will likely have a very hyperactive baby. The baby will become cranky when the caffeine is taken away from him/her because now he/she has an addiction to it. Cranky is never good in a newborn. Babies can get cranky enough without the added help of a caffeine crash.
There are other health risks involved as well. Your baby could develop stomach troubles if you drink coffee while you are pregnant. Coffee isn’t good for the stomach. That is why so many diseases that involve the stomach or the intestines will require the person who has it to quit drinking coffee in order to feel better. These types of diseases can be linked to people who are avid coffee consumers.
There is nothing wrong with having a cup of coffee every now and then. However, drinking it while you are pregnant is detrimental to the baby’s health. If you want the healthiest possible baby when he/she arrives, stop drinking coffee. It is your duty, as a mother, to make sure that your child doesn’t become addicted to caffeine. In order to do that, you have to put your caffeine addiction aside and quit drinking coffee during the pregnant months. If you are breast feeding, you will need to continue the same practice. Anything you eat and drink while you are breastfeeding goes to the baby as well.
