Do different sugars make coffee taste different?

Many coffee drinkers rely on sugars and sweeteners to make the experience more enjoyable. This is fine, but truly understanding all of your choices may help make for an even better cup of coffee. Each sugar (or sweetener if you choose) offers something slightly different to a cup of coffee, just as it does with other products.
Sugar, Granulated Sugar, Sucrose- This is the sugar most commonly used both to sweeten coffee and for other purposes. It is table sugar, white, and gently sweet. It sweetens the coffee without adding much of its own flavors to the coffee. This is an option everywhere you go for coffee, whether it is McDonalds, a diner, or a coffee shop.
Brown Sugar-Brown sugar is brown in color, made of smaller crystals, and often sticky. It is also very sweet and has a rich flavor.
When added to coffee it makes for an earthy taste that can be very rich and very sweet. Some coffee shops offer this as an option, but it is not available in most other places.
Demerora Sugar-This is a light brown sugar with very large sugar crystals. It is a lighter sweet taste then either white sugar or brown sugar. It is very popular in Europe for adding to drinks and can be found at many coffee shops.
Honey-While it is debatable about whether or not honey is really a sugar, it does sweeten drinks a lot. For those who enjoy the flavor of honey it is possible that adding it to your coffee would be the perfect way to sweeten it. This is also available at many coffee shops.
Raw Sugar or Turbinado Sugar-This is a little like Demerora Sugar. It is light in color with large crystals. It offers a subtly sweet flavor that isn't as bold as the other sugars on this list.
Sweeteners-In todays dieting and health concerned era there is also the use of sweeteners. Each of these taste slightly different and will effect the flavor of the coffee differently. Some are much more sweet then others. The ones that you are most likely to find while at a coffee shop or a diner are Splenda, Sweet 'n Low, Equal, and Nutra Sweet.
As when adding anything, different sugars can change the taste of your coffee. You have lots of options and can experiment to find the one you like the most.
