5 Hair styles to help you look younger

A bad hairstyle can age you, but a little know-how applied to those locks can be like a fountain of youth. The Real-Life Makeover team offers up youthful, goof-proof hairstyles and tips to restore body and shine. Your hair probably didn't even look this good in high school.

#1 The Sophisticated Ponytail
Chances are you've been pulling your hair through an elastic since your pep rally days, but this is a style that can grow-up with you. Use a large-barrel curling iron to give your tail some volume, or keep your ponytail straight and low for a sleeker look. Wrap a piece of hair around the hair tie for extra polish points worthy of a big meeting.

#2 A Loose Bun

This is a look that's still as ballerina-chic as the day it was invented, the hair equivalent of throwing on an LBD. Pull your hair into a low ponytail, twist, and then loop around in a circle. Secure with bobby pins or clips. Voila! Audrey Hepburn would be proud.

#3 Volumizing

As if the roster of features the march of time affects weren't long enough, our hair thins and loses body as we age. But don't go crying over flat hair. A volumizing spray applied at the roots will restore that just-got-out-of-bed Brigitte Bardot-oomph you're after. Just add lipstick and you're an instant sexpot.

#4 Shine Treatment

After your hair has been towel-dried and is still slightly damp, work a shine serum into your tresses. Blow your hair out as usual, blasting with cold air at the end to seal the hair cuticle and lock in shine. Finish with a lightweight shine spray and you're good to go.

#5 Side Part Switch-Up

Even the most tried-and-true routines can benefit from a shake-up now and then. And what's even better is when the change requires zero effort. Switching your part from one side of your head to the other or making your middle part just a little bit off-center offers a completely different look with no heavy lifting.
